Uzone.id – In the last two seasons Francesco ‘Pecco’ Bagnaina has been strong in MotoGP. Moreover, he also became the first Italian racer in an Italian team competed on an Italian manufactured motorbike and won two consecutive titles in MotoGP World Champion. Can Pecco repeat it for the third time in a row?
Four of the remaining series in MotoGP 2024. One of the strong candidates for the championship is Jorge Martin, who only has a narrow lead over his main competitor Bagnaia. Every point is very valuable for the two riders who are candidates for champions this year!
Jorge Martin admitted that now his closest competitor is only Francesco Bagnaia. Enea Bastianini and Marc Marquez already have tough chances, but Martin is sure these two names will still put up tough resistance!
As it stands at the moment, ‘I am left with Pecco.’” But Enea and Marc will still fight. I’m very fortunate to compete against all of them,” Motogp quotes of the official site.
Bagnaia, like Martin, does not believe the competition for the MotoGP world title is just between himself and Martin. The Ducati rider is still calculating Bastianini and Marquez until their chances are completely closed mathematically.
“Since the start of the season, more or less, we (Jorge and I) have opened up a gap with the others. It is indeed mathematically impossible for Enea and Marc to become champions, but we have to take them into account,” said Bagnaia as reported by Crash.
Meanwhile, Marc Marquez favored his compatriot Jorge Martin to break Bagnaia’s ambition to become world champion for the third time in a row.
Moreover, this season Marc Marquez has left the competition for the 2024 MotoGP title.
Racer Gresini is a point adrift of Jorge Martin at the top of the MotoGP standings after the disastrous race in Mandalika. Despite finishing third in the sprint race, Marquez dropped out of the main race after his motorbike caught fire in the middle of the race.
The 2024 MotoGP Championship only has 8 races left in four series. Marquez said he no longer had the opportunity to compete with Jorge Martin and Bagnaia.
“With zero points for both Bastanini and me in Mandalika, it’s game over in the world championship. We can’t fail to finish. The two of them [Pecco and Martin], if they fail can still compete, whereas we are prohibited from failing. Now it’s just between them,” said the MotoGP superstar from Spain.
“I’m already far behind, especially after I got zero points at the Indonesian Grand Prix, the gap is now too big,” said Marquez as quoted by Motorsport.
Even though in the Japanese MotoGP, Marquez managed to secure the third podium in both the Sprint Race and the main race, realistically it will still be difficult to catch up with his two competitors.
According to Marquez, the title is leaning towards Jorge Martin rather than Francesco Bagnaia.
In 2023, Pecco Bagnaia will successfully overtake Jorge Martin in the final series before winning the world title. Currently, Martinator is still 10 points ahead of Bagnaia after finishing second in the Japanese MotoGP. Marquez said his compatriot is more favored, but Bagnaia still has a chance.
“The racer who I think is faster at the moment is Martin,” said the eight-time world champion. “He is a consistent rider in all situations, whether he slips on the track or has better or worse tire conditions, he is always at the front.”
Martin has ‘an advantage’ perhaps because of points advantage, especially because of what we’re seeing on the track, but you never know,’ said Marc Márquez.
Enea Bastianini, whose Ducati factory team seat next season will be filled by Marc Marquez, also doesn’t see much hope for his first ever MotoGP championship this year. Enea is 3rd in the 2024 MotoGP standings. He doesn’t want to be setting a championship target at the end of the season.
No amount of success had been enough to get Bastianini top of the standings with four races to go. Even so, he didn’t want to be burdened with more expectations and chose to be realistic.
“Now it’s getting closer. It could be better in my target. But realistically it’s still quite far,” said Bastianini.
“The gap in the championship is getting bigger, but mathematically it is still not impossible to achieve. So, it is important to stay focused in these final racing series, give your best, and always try hard,” he added.
Despite his failure to score points at Mandalika, Bastianini is a racer who consistently scores points. Even before the Mandalika MotoGP, Bastianini was able to collect 127 points since the summer break. Only Martin scored more points with 129 points. Marquez earned 115 points and Bagnaia only 95 points in the same period.
Meanwhile, Martin is increasingly confident this season. Martinator said that he is not currently the Martin who was runner-up in MotoGP 2023. This is what makes his opportunity to break three-time consecutive World Champion Bagnaia a reality.
Especially this year Jorge Martin is undergoing his final season with the Desmosedici GP24 motorbike. The racer from Spain will defend Aprilia starting next season.
Ducati preferred Marc Marquez as Jorge Bagnaia’s future teammate over Martin, which he is hoping to end his season with the nine time MotoGP champion ‘sweet revenge’.
Back in MotoGP 2023, Martin came through a lot of things: from not the way you want for the start of the season, you do not want to compete for the trophy. JM89 recorded wins in 13 races last year; four main races and nine sprint races.
Several moments made Martin fall out of the race for MotoGP 2023. First, he failed to finish in the main race of MotoGP Mandalika 2023 after falling while leading the race.
Then Martin’s poor performance in Qatar 2023 seemed to have paved the way for Bagnaia to defend his MotoGP title. Then the Pramac Ducati rider looked devastated and cried after falling at the Valencia MotoGP. Martin lost his chance to become world champion in 2023. Martin admitted that he was under a lot of pressure.
Entering 2024, Jorge Martin admits that his experience last year has shaped his current mentality. Therefore, Martin wants to always be competitive with the Pramac Ducati.
“I feel calm and will give 100 percent as usual. I am a different rider from last year, I feel very strong, probably the fastest all season,” said Martin.
“But now I feel more complete, for sure I am happy to be able to fight with Pecco (Bagnaia). I feel better, last year it was difficult to handle the pressure,” he said.
“I’ve worked hard so the mental side of things is better now,” he explained.
Jorge Martin has 13 podium finishes in MotoGP 2024 and three main race wins. Four series remain, the rivals in this one being Jorge Martin and Francesco Bagnaia.
